Homeschooling 2024-2025: Kicking Off the 2nd Grade School Year
Kicking Off 2nd Grade: Embracing New Learning Adventures and Balancing Homeschooling with Fun Activities!
We completed the first week of homeschooling after a short summer break. This year, we are continuing to use the Abekea curriculum. My daughter's reading skills have significantly improved, so we are sticking with this curriculum. Even though I'm not particularly religious, I appreciate the Bible lessons and stories she learns. The values she learns from these lessons benefit her development and understanding of right and wrong.
I'm pleased with my daughter's 1st-grade report card, and we're moving on to our 2nd week of 2nd grade. In addition to using Abekea's 2nd-grade curriculum, my daughter attends a Math and Korean tutoring class with other kids. She covers the math part of Abekea with her tutor four days a week, giving her some time in the morning to rest and play before her tutoring session. This arrangement also relieves stress from both of us, allowing us to focus on other lessons in the curriculum.
Our learning environment is at the dinner table, where my daughter works on her assignments and watches her video lessons. In contrast, I work on my business at www.songtanmugs.com or focus on my Computer Science classes. Our school week is four days instead of five as we have transitioned to year-round schooling. Fridays will be dedicated to field trips with our homeschool groups or a rest day if my daughter needs it.
This week, my daughter also started youth baseball for ages 7-8 twice weekly for an hour on the base. Our first field trip with the homeschool group is scheduled for this Friday, and we'll be taking homeschool pictures at the event. Additionally, in October, we will begin our 3rd year of Girl Scouts, where my daughter will be moving up to the Brownies level, making it a bi-monthly activity.
Overall, our first week of homeschooling went well, and we are excited about the second week. Stay tuned for our update next week.
